Careful there Coffee - that level of sane reasoned comment is likely to bring out the crazies in force.

It's a weird statement 'be careful what you wish for' I wished for Sam gone, Klopp to take over and Gundogan to be our next captain. Not much to be careful over there.

Good post. Yes I remember how 'boring Curbs' was universally disliked. But those were troubled times with owners fast disappearing up their own backsides under a mountain of debt after promising CL football and delivering Curbs as Pards replacement!

I think David Sullivan is much more shrewd than those Icelandic idiots that owned us back then. I am sure that the plan is to spend as much as he can afford on a new manager and players that ensure we are far not in the bottom three.

Don't tell me what I have to hope.

It is possible to come up with a list as long as a very long arm of people to avoid.

As we now (history tells us) pay to dollar for a manager I think the danger of a McLeish is low. It is used like the bogey man under the bed to scare the children.

Coffee 5:50 Mon May 25
Re: "be careful what you wish for"
Well, they haven't avoided change of personnel. You just have to hope that the new manager is not a McLeish type person.

Re: "be careful what you wish for"
Our wish must be that the owners have 'learned' the lessons of history. Rather than use history as an excuse to avoid change.

Re: "be careful what you wish for"
To the OP:

If there's one thing to be learned from the last decade, it is precisely that fans should be careful what they wish for.

Under Curbs, people on here were clucking like anything about "boring, mid-table mediocrity". Many wanted him gone almost as soon as he'd arrived. Some offered their right arm to exchange the tedium for time to rebuild in the Championship. Well, they got Zola. And they nearly got their wish to be relegated.

But they didn't have to wait long for that wish to come true, because Uncle Avram obliged the very next season. How some people then yearned for the security and stability of mid-table mediocrity!

There's no denying that under BFS the club has moved forward. Aspirations rose - despite criticism of his style of play - to the extent that European qualification by league position was not considered unrealistic. Compare that with the state of affairs in the summer of 2011.

So now we have our wish and the BFS era is over. Of course, everyone wants the club to make the best managerial appointment in West Ham's history, but you don't always get what you wish for - at least, not without a hefty price being paid.

It's a clear sign of the club's recent progress that we're now expecting - not merely wanting, but actually expecting - a top manager to be appointed, with top players to follow.

Will the owners be able to deliver this? I certainly hope so, but it's rarely wise to ignore the lessons of history.

Fair enough fraser, get your point though, I haven’t actually watched a game since Stoke, just find it frustrating when we are in this sort of form, missed the Burnley win but it was hardly memorable and apart from that its been pretty dire.

Will watch tonight but only as it’s the last game of the season, also the interest in the relegation fight but im expecting us to roll over, so may well go off to bed at half time if that’s the case.

Looking forward to an early start for next season if we are in the Europa though.

I didn't say I didn't want us to win, just that I found it hard.

Though to be fair, didn't get much opportunity to feel that as we've hardly looked like winning.

Monk All ok thanks. Bloody hot though.

fraser - If we finish below the mighty Palace it will serve as the final *insert word or phrase* of why he had to go.

Already looking forward to August with everyone united with Bilic on the touchline all animated, sleeves rolled up, studded earing and having a crafty fag.

Re: "be careful what you wish for"
Fucking hell fraser, been finding it hard to back the team and get results because the manager may get to stay longer?

Sorry I can’t relate or understand that.

Personally I hope we win every game no matter who the manager is, couldn’t have it any other way to be honest.

Syd

Yes, that's the worry but at least in the bars they seem to be able to get games from all over the place and not only what the local broadcaster's decide to select. So, it will be down to customer demand.

fraser 5:09 Sun May 24
Re: "be careful what you wish for"
PD - would have agreed a couple of weeks ago but as he's going I can back the team again, I can't lie it's been hard to do thinking that positive results would extend his stay.

Good luck with that Monk, interesting games are at Newcastle and Hull but you will have to factor in the Stevie G last game and the Chelsea love in, as odds on those 2 clubs are going to be high on the list as well for the TV channels, Hull have the added attraction of there opposition, so expect that to be ahead of the Barcodes game.

Re: "be careful what you wish for"
You would have thought that if he is going and sounds likely, then the board have one, taken this decision a while ago and two, been active sounding out possible replacements and who would be interested rather than what the bullshit press speculate on.

Heres hoping that is right on both counts

Re: "be careful what you wish for"
Hi PD,

All good thanks. Will go out to see what is being shown. Hopefully, they will be featuring the interesting end of the table.

Sunday games are shown on a cable network that I don't have at home so need to watch in a bar.
